Secure Shell, better known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol employed to execute commands on a remote hosting server or to exchange info between a web server and a client. Given that the info exchanged by the two sides is protected, a 3rd party simply cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a preferred means of controlling an Internet hosting account. The commands that could be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared server, in particular, the choices are limited as you'll not have root access to the web server, so you can just create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, import and export databases, etcetera. They're all actions which are executed in the shared hosting account and do not need a higher level of access. Through a virtual or a dedicated server, you shall have the ability to set up server-side software or to restart the web server or only a specific service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, but if you don't employ a UNIX-like OS, there are a number of apps for other OSs, which you can use to connect to the remote hosting server as well.
SSH Telnet in Cloud Hosting
If you have a cloud hosting account with our company and you want to manage your content remotely through SSH, you can receive SSH access to the account via your Hepsia Control Panel. If your package doesn't provide this feature by default, you can easily add it with a few mouse clicks through the Upgrades menu. Within the SSH section of the Control Panel, you will see the host, the port number and the username that you need to use when you connect to the account. You could also select what password you would want to use, since it does not have to be the same as the one for your account. We have prepared many Help articles where you can find all of the commands that you will be able to use with a shared hosting plan, as well as examples of how they're used. Moreover, if SSH access is enabled for your account, you will be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection using a standard client such as FileZilla, for example.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
All our semi-dedicated server accounts provide you with the possibility to access and handle them using SSH. If the package that you've selected includes this feature by default, you simply need to allow the SSH access feature through the corresponding section of the Hepsia Control Panel. If the function is listed as an additional upgrade, you can quickly include it through the Add Services/Upgrades link in the Hepsia Control Panel and it'll be available within a minute. We have numerous help articles and instructional videos about the use of SSH commands to handle your account and an entire list of the commands which you can perform along with numerous examples to give you a better perception of what you could do. If SSH is enabled, you shall also be able to establish an SFTP connection to the account and to upload data safely and securely via any FTP app that supports the function.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
The VPS server solutions we offer feature SSH access as standard, not as an optional upgrade or a function which you should enable. Once your new server is ready, you shall be able to connect and begin working on your content using the login details that you have entered through the order process. A copy of the SSH credentials will be sent to you via e mail as well. As your VPS shall be isolated from the others on the physical hosting server, there are no limitations as to what you can or cannot do using SSH. You are able to download, install and manage any piece of software which will run on a Linux web server, reboot your entire server or just a certain software component, and work with files, folders and databases without restrictions. All you'll need for this is a console or an SSH client on your end.
